Hong Kong National Security Police arrested eight people this morning in connection with the CU graduation parade.

The National Security Division of the Hong Kong Police arrested at least eight people between the ages of 16 and 33, including Kwun Tong District Councilor Chan Yee-shun, Sai Kung District Councilor Lee Ka-yui, and Research Assistant Yeung Chi-kwan, in connection with last month’s CUHK parade.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) alumnus, Tsuyh-Jin Yang, said on Facebook that he was arrested in connection with the CUHK graduation parade on Nov. 19, when his house was being searched.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was scheduled to hold its graduation ceremony for three consecutive days starting last month, but the university announced that it would be held online instead due to the epidemic. Afterwards, some students took to the Internet to organize a march inside CUHK at noon to observe a moment of silence to commemorate the anti-regulation conflict. Hundreds of CU graduates and students gathered at the Goddess of Democracy statue outside the MTR station with protest signs in their hands and marched on campus. CUHK called the police, who investigated the incident for allegedly violating the National Security Law by displaying “Hong Kong independence” flags and banners.
