Trump Urges FDA to Approve New Crown Vaccine as Soon as Possible

Johnson & Johnson announced on Sept. 23 that the company’s vaccine in development is in the third phase of clinical trials, which will involve 60,000 people at 215 sites in the United States. President Trump retweeted the New York Times story on his Twitter feed and said, “Big news. Several great companies are seeing amazing results. The FDA must move quickly!”

Once a vaccine is developed by a pharmaceutical company, it needs to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before it can be marketed.

The U.S. government is currently supporting four pharmaceutical companies to develop a neo-crown vaccine: Moderna, Pfizer, Astra Zeneca in collaboration with Oxford University, and Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, issued a statement saying that eight months after the discovery of the new coronavirus, all four pharmaceutical companies are in the third phase of vaccine development.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Dr. Fauci said there is no need to talk about whether this is the first or second wave of the epidemic in the United States, and that it is “unacceptable” that 40,000 people a day are now being diagnosed.

He is concerned that as we move into fall and the weather gets colder, many people will move indoors, which will increase the spread of the new coronavirus.

O’Brien, the White House NSC’s national security adviser, spoke Tuesday afternoon at Drake University. He said the relationship between the United States and China has changed since the outbreak of the new coronavirus.

The cover-up had an impact,” he said. And the Communist Party will cover up the facts. And in this case the cover-up resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and the spread of the virus. You know, the virus spread so quickly that we were caught off guard. It wouldn’t have happened if China had been transparent. So even though we were happy with the first phase of the U.S.-China trade agreement; it was signed before the virus broke out. I think we signed the agreement on January 19th, and the President was warned on January 28th that the virus could be very serious. Just when we were hoping that, because of the trade agreement, U.S.-China relations could get back on track, the virus broke out. This agreement gave us hundreds of billions of dollars, but we and the world also spent hundreds of billions of dollars to fight the virus, not to mention the human lives that cannot be measured in economic value or price. This trade agreement seems small in comparison. It is important to confront China and their broken trade practices, and to ensure that Americans are treated fairly in U.S.-China trade. But the entire U.S.-China relationship is full of neo-coronaviruses and cover-ups.

O’Brien also said the U.S. will use the funds it is giving to the WHO to make more effective use of them in other countries and with frontline health care workers.
