U.S. National Security Adviser Sullivan reiterated U.S. support for Israel’s right to self-defense during a meeting with Israeli Defense Minister Gantz in Washington on Thursday (June 3).
In a statement, National Security Council spokesman John Horne said the two officials discussed the recent conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants. That conflict ended late last month with a tenuous cease-fire.
“Sullivan reaffirmed President Biden’s unwavering support for Israel’s right to self-defense and commitment to strengthening the U.S.-Israeli security partnership in all its aspects, including support for the Iron Dome system,” she said.
Horn added that Sullivan stressed the importance of ensuring immediate humanitarian relief to “the people of Gaza” and that Sullivan and Gantz “discussed their shared interest in taking steps to enhance stability, peace and security not only for Israel and the Palestinians, but also for the entire region “
Horn said Sullivan and Gantz agreed that the United States and Israel should continue to work together in the coming weeks to “advance their strategic priorities in the region.
