India’s Foreign Minister Su Jaisheng (S. Jaishankar) said Thursday that China was responsible for last year’s clashes along the India-China border. This could have more serious economic consequences if border tensions cannot be calmed.
Su Jiesheng said at a media event that day, China-India relations are at a turning point, if the border situation can not be improved, then bilateral relations will continue to deteriorate.
China and India had their worst border clash in nearly half a century last year, resulting in the death of at least 21 Indian and four Chinese soldiers. Until now, the two countries have had tens of thousands of soldiers and large amounts of military equipment stationed along the border. Officials from both armies have so far held 11 rounds of talks on the withdrawal, but progress has been slow.
Su Jaisheng also said India is ready to compete with China in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond, noting that India has important interests in the Indo-Pacific, Europe and Africa.
