When studying to improve the efficiency of learning, you need to know a formula: homework done = time spent x intensity of attention
Because it is very important to learn to focus your attention before studying.
From a long-term perspective, a more useful way is to practice meditation, but it usually takes up to several months to see results. From a short-term perspective, these four suggestions will allow you to see results immediately.
1 Start writing with notes
When you can’t focus, immediately use a pen to start writing, and in the process of writing attention will slowly focus.
For example, when memorizing a question, your brain may drift or shift its attention after a while, but when you write with a pen, your attention will be focused.
2 Increase the sense of freshness
As early as 1898, William James (William James) noticed that even if people keep paying attention to something, that something will change. The example he used to illustrate this phenomenon is that we can hardly stare at our fingers for long periods of time without rolling our eyes. Staring at a painting without our eyes wandering, keeping the picture still in our eyes, we find it difficult to focus on an object in this way. Perceptual researchers tell us that, in fact, the image will gradually become blurred until it disappears.
The brain is very fond of novelty. In learning or remembering, give the brain some new stimuli, for example through a story, a map or a picture, the famous palace mnemonic is this principle.
Change the way you study when you study, for example, try to take notes with different colored pens, hand-drawn mind maps, new ways to take notes, all make you more motivated when you study and easier to concentrate.
Think of ways you can use to add freshness when studying.
3 Establish a rhythm
Everyone concentrates for a different amount of time. Know approximately how long you will be distracted and reduce all sources of distraction around you when studying.
For example, if you can’t concentrate for too long at the beginning, you can use a rhythm of 8 minutes of study and 2 minutes of rest to study, and then slowly extend the time, for example, the tomato work method is 25+5. When you use this method for a period of time, you will find the right time for your study and form your own rhythm.
Once the rhythm is formed, the brain will slowly adapt to the rhythm and you will be able to reduce the lack of concentration.
Do not study too long in a day, such as 10 hours, so that the learning effect is not too good. When you are tired of studying, you can take a walk by the water or a place with green plants and rest for a while, which will also help to focus your attention.
4 Change different study places regularly
Identify some secluded study locations around the school. Places like dormitories or homes are off-limits for studying, and likewise the spacious public study rooms in the main library are in this category.
Do not stay in the dormitory, it is easy to be influenced by your classmates or involuntarily play games, it is difficult to study quietly.
Or go to a venue near the school, a corner against a wall in a café, or the local public library, which are ideal study locations where you can concentrate on your studies.
Changing locations frequently will prevent you from getting too tired of staying in one place.
It’s important to study in a secluded location, away from the noise, for obvious reasons: the atmosphere will keep you from getting distracted.
