Republican lawmakers call on their colleagues: To unite against the left, Cheney must step down

Texas U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (D) told Newsmax TV Tuesday, May 11, that he will vote to oust Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney (R) from her No. 3 House Republican leadership position. He said it’s not to silence her, but so the Republican Party can unite against the Democrats’ socialist agenda and save the country from a socialist future.

Cheney is reportedly facing a near-certain vote because of her consistent public attacks on former President Trump (Trump), and many Republicans have said they want to oust her from her position as chairman of the House Republican Conference.

Babin said Cheney had previously survived a vote to oust her from leadership. He supported her then because he wanted to give her a chance to get back in line. But in recent weeks, her criticism of Trump has become more reckless.

Babin told the two hosts that while Cheney is entitled to her views as a member of Congress, “if she wants to be part of the leadership, she has to be part of a unified coalition fighting the agenda of the Biden administration and the Democrats in Congress.”

He argued that the divisions in the Republican leadership may make someone like Cheney look as if she is speaking for all Republican members, but she represents only a tiny minority. “And the fact that she’s in that position is causing them to almost reach a level where they can control the situation now.”

Babin also said that removing Cheney is absolutely necessary if Republicans are to take back the House in 2022. “Especially in the face of AOC (Rep. Alexandria, N.Y.). Ocasio. Cortes) and those Democrats behind (House Speaker) Pelosi who are on their heels, we have to unite and take this House back and save America from socialism. That’s the bottom line.”

Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) both support replacing Cheney with Rep. Elise Stefanik (D-N.Y.). Stefanik is a big supporter of Trump and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda.

While Rep. Adam Kinzinger (D-N.Y.), in addition to Cheney, also opposes Trump, Babin believes this will not become a “Republican civil war,” as some in the leftist media have touted. He said, “There’s not going to be anything like a civil war in the Republican Party, there’s just going to be some differences of opinion.”

“We’re Republicans, we don’t run with our legs tied together like Democrats do. We all have our own ideas and philosophy’s. And we tend to vote for people like that. Just like the historical kind of people who (show more ideas) compared to the Democrats.” Babin continued.

But, he also warned, “Everything is in danger now, and America is sitting on the precipice of socialism.” He believes the path the U.S. is currently on could lead to the U.S. becoming another Venezuela – that once prosperous South American country. “The country fell off the face of the earth after electing Hugo Chavez, the socialist leader.”

Babin concluded, “So we have to be on the same page when it comes to fighting the real adversary here, and that’s against the socialist Democrats. We’re going up against the Biden administration, who promised unity – and yet we weren’t invited to have any input on some of these terrible bills.”
