White House: Joe Biden thinks social media platforms should block more “untrustworthy content”

The White House said Wednesday that Joe Biden supports social media companies banning more content on their platforms that is deemed “untrustworthy,” Breitbart News reported on May 5.

In a daily press briefing, White House Press Secretary Joe Psaki, declined to say whether Biden supports social media companies that continue to ban Trump, but Psaki did reiterate that Biden supports more censorship of speech.

Biden said he believes social media companies have a “responsibility” to block questionable content, “Biden’s view is that the major social media platforms have a responsibility to stop amplifying untrustworthy content, disinformation and misinformation, particularly content related to the Communist virus, vaccinations and the election.”

Breitbart News reminded readers that during the 2020 presidential campaign, Biden enjoyed several attempts by social media companies, to stop damaging stories about the Biden family from spreading online.

Asked by a reporter if social media companies, in doing so, were guilty of disrespecting First Amendment freedom of speech, Psaki said, “Look, of course we’re believers in First Amendment rights. The decision that needs to be made by social media platforms is how they deal with false information, misinformation, especially information that could be life-threatening, like the Communist virus and vaccinations and those kinds of issues. “

Psaki’s point is that the First Amendment does not apply to “misinformation” online.
