Arizona Republican Party Chairman: Ballot Audits Continue

Workers at the Maricopa County Elections Office in Phoenix, Arizona, count ballots on Nov. 5, 2020.

Arizona’s audit of the 2.1 million ballots cast in Maricopa County’s 2020 general election continues to take a turn for the worse as Democratic lawsuits intervene, according to a Twitter update from Arizona Republican Party Chairman Kelli Ward on Monday morning, April 26, saying the audit continues.

Ward’s update included: “First, the full legal audit, which began last Friday, continues at 8 a.m. today (26th); second, the state Democratic Party has refused to post a $1 million bond to cover any potential increased costs; third, the Arizona Superior Court will review the rules and procedures regarding the audit at 11 a.m.; fourth, last Friday the judge (Curry) who heard arguments and issued the (conditional) temporary restraining order suspending the audit at the request of the Democrats, has hedged out of the case (presiding over the case), so a new judge will be appointed; fifth, the Arizona Supreme Court is also scheduled to hear arguments later this week from the state Senate that the judicial branch’s (court’s) interference with the administration of the audit is an intrusion into the state legislature, and therefore it is un constitutional.”

Beginning last Friday (23rd), Arizona officially launched a comprehensive forensic audit of the 2.1 million ballots cast in Maricopa County in the 2020 election, but just one day before the audit began, Arizona Democratic attorneys filed an emergency lawsuit citing “a lack of due process by Senate Republicans to secure the ballots. The lawsuit asked the judge to order a temporary halt to the audit.

At the time, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Chris Coury said he would order a temporary halt to the audit until Monday (26th) in order to protect voter information, but only if the Arizona Democratic Party paid a $1 million bond, which the state Democratic Party refused to do.

As the audit continues, the battle continues, not only in the courtroom but in the public sphere,” Ward said. Democrats and their cronies in the media (the left media) are waging an all-out blitzkrieg across the country, using propaganda to discredit and stop the audit.”

“The chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party and others continue to make wild accusations that (the audit hired) hate groups to count votes, accuse the auditors of using a blue pen that would upset the balance, and make false claims that (the audit caused) ballots to be insecure. But the fake news media went along with the Democratic narrative, as you can see by looking at the headlines.” Ward said it’s also false that people are calling the audit, which has gained national attention, a “Republican audit.”

“In fact, I call this audit an ‘American-style audit.’ It was conducted at the discretion of a legislative body, the Arizona Senate, which was duly elected by Arizona voters, with hundreds of nonpartisan volunteers counting ballots by hand, all of whom were background checked, trained, and secured, and all of the ballots were secure.”

The audit, which was initiated under the leadership of the Arizona Senate, was also endorsed by a judge’s ruling. On Feb. 26 of this year, a judge formally ruled that the Arizona Senate has oversight authority and that Maricopa County must provide the state Senate with approximately 2.1 million ballots from last year’s Nov. 3 presidential election and allow the state Senate to conduct an audit of its election equipment.

Ward said Democrats will use all means to stop the audit, but justice will not be deterred and the audit continues. The state Republican Party is also calling on the public to go online (https://secure.winred.com/arizona-republican-party/integrityfund) to provide support and protect the audit from attacks.
