Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
California election officials said on the 26th, Republicans launched a campaign to recall Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom, has collected enough valid signatures to hold a vote. But California has not yet formally approved the recall or set an election date.
The California Secretary of State’s office said that as of the 26th, supporters of the petition to recall Newsom had submitted 1.6 million valid signatures for a recall election.
Under California law, officials must provide a final tally of valid signatures by the 29th of this month. Voters then have 30 days to change their minds and withdraw their consent.
California’s recall election consists of two questions: whether the incumbent governor should step down; and, if the incumbent should go, who should replace him. If a majority of voters agree to remove the incumbent governor, the candidate who receives the most votes will serve the remainder of his or her term.
Newsom, a former lieutenant governor of California and mayor of San Francisco, was elected governor in 2018 with nearly 62 percent of the vote and is considering running for re-election in 2022.
The recall campaign against Newsom began in February 2020 by the California Patriot Coalition, which opposes Newsom’s liberal political philosophy.
As Californians become disillusioned with the COVID-19 vaccination program, school closures, and changes in public health regulations, the recall of Newsom is gaining traction.
Several people have also declared their intention to run for office and replace him, including transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner. Caitlyn Jenner (Caitlyn Jenner) and three other Republicans. The outside world expects that Newsham may face a recall election this fall (recall election).
This will be the second recall election in California since 2003, and the fourth in U.S. history. That year, voters voted to remove former Governor Davis (Gray Davis) from office, and let Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger (Arnold Schwarzenegger) succeed him.
