Kamala Harris: “We Should Have an Assault Weapons Ban”

Vice President Kamala Harris called on lawmakers to pass an “assault weapons ban” on CNN’s “State of the Union” program, Breitbart News reported Sunday, April 25.

CNN anchor Dana Bash said, “In a little over a month, there have been at least 50 mass shootings in the United States. The Biden administration has made it clear that infrastructure is the next big legislative priority. Why isn’t gun legislation a priority? Dr. Anthony Fauci (D-CA), said over the weekend that gun violence is a public health emergency.”

Harris said, “In fact, we’ve already taken action. Biden issued an executive order on phantom guns, and that’s all that’s left for now. Biden has long spoken very clearly and unambiguously about the need for sensible gun safety laws, and we’re all pushing for legislation that Congress must act on to make permanent.”

She added, “We should have background checks, we should have an assault weapons ban. Assault weapons are weapons that can kill a lot of people quickly and are weapons of war, and Congress must be held accountable.”

Harris said an assault weapons ban is really part of the administration’s priorities. The government has a lot of tasks that are all going on at the same time.
