Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) recently released her biography, according to the U.S. political news site Axios. In part, the biography includes Pelosi’s implicit criticism of The Squad in the Democratic Party.
In the biography, Pelosi reminded the “Gang of Four,” made up of minority Democratic congresswomen, that “this is not a one-woman show, this is the United States Congress,” the newspaper said. She also named Rep. AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez).
The “Gang of Four” refers to Democratic Congresswomen AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley. They are all new members of Congress who first joined last year.
In July 2019, Pelosi said at a press conference that she had nothing to discuss with the “Gang of Four. Shortly after that clash, Peggy, the Washington bureau chief for USA Today, wrote in an interview with Pelosi that “the differences between the Speaker and the four progressive congresswomen are obvious.”
The AOC has denounced Pelosi and focused on criticizing women lawmakers of color, while Pelosi has responded that members of the “Gang of Four” should not publicly bash Democratic lawmakers.
The media said that many of the policies proposed by the four congresswomen have caused discontent. According to Breitbart News on Wednesday, April 22, the AOC reintroduced the “Green New Deal” on the eve of Earth Day, suggesting that climate change is caused by racial injustice.
The Daily Caller reported on April 19 that a Federal Election Commission report showed that the four congresswomen who claimed to be cutting police funding each spent thousands of dollars on their own security in the first quarter of the year. The payments are described as “security” or “security services” in FEC filings. But as recently as last January, the AOC called on New York City to cut its police budget by $1 billion.
