U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the meeting between President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin should be held under the right conditions.
Sullivan said in an interview with CNN television: “The meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States should be held under the right conditions, so that indeed the two countries can promote relations. But I’m not prepared to go into depth about whether and when such a hypothetical thing would take place.”
Earlier in a phone conversation with Putin, Biden proposed a face-to-face meeting in a third country. U.S. Secretary of State John Blinken said Biden suggested to Putin that a meeting be held in recent weeks.
For its part, the White House also announced that Biden invited 40 world leaders to an online climate summit on April 22 and 23, to which Russian President Vladimir Putin also received an invitation.
