The New York Post recently reported that a Seattle-based member of Black Lives Matters has been arrested for alleged anti-Asian hate crimes. The man, Christopher Hamner, a 51-year-old black man, is accused of attacking three Asian women in two separate incidents last month.

In the first incident on March 16, Hamner yelled insulting profanities at a Chinese-American mother driving with her two children, then punched her fists together in a threatening gesture and told her to get out of the car. The mother took a picture of Hamner, who then drove off.

The woman said, “He jumped out of the car and came at us …… That was the scariest part for me.”

Last summer, Hamner posted photos on Facebook of himself at a “Black Lives Matter” protest and recorded a video of Seattle’s infamous Capitol Hill Borough CHOP.

On March 18, he denounced “racial hate crimes” on Facebook after the Atlanta shooting that left six Asian women dead. But the next day, Hamner was accused of cutting off the lanes of two Asian women while driving and again using profanity. He also attacked the two women at the time.

Because the driver’s car was equipped with a traffic recorder, it allowed police to identify Hamner.

Hamner pleaded not guilty at his arraignment last week. The judge set his bail at $10,000.

For his part, Hamner’s attorney argued that he suffers from mental illness. Hamner’s trial is scheduled for June 3.
