Gao Fu, director of China’s CDC, said on Saturday (10) that a variant of the new coronavirus had reduced the vaccine’s protection rate, which was interpreted by foreign media as “Gao Fu’s opinion that the protection rate of domestic vaccines is not high”. The British media on Wednesday (14) quoted experts as saying that some of the viral proteins contained in the vaccine produced in China were not relevant to the protective effect, and that the antibodies produced actually failed to fight the real new coronavirus.
The report quoted Ian Jones, a virologist at the University of Reading, as saying that the vaccines produced in China are inactivated vaccines, i.e., inactivated versions of the new coronavirus are genetically modified, and then the virus cells are injected into the body so that the immune cells produce antibodies, which has the advantage of being produced quickly and cheaply, but the viral proteins contained in the vaccines have nothing to do with protection, and most of them are wasted after being injected into the body. However, the viral proteins contained in the vaccine are not relevant to protection and are largely wasted after injection. In addition, this type of vaccine is not targeted, so that the immune system released a large number of antibodies, but these antibodies are not able to fight the real new coronavirus, so the protection rate is not high.
For example, Pfizer and Modena vaccines use mRNA technology to create viral echinocandin, which uses synthetic genetic material to deliver instructions for re-identifying and defending against new coronaviruses directly to cells, making their protection rates more than 90 percent respectively. The vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals is a weakened version of the genetic code of the virus, and then send it to the cells to fight the new coronavirus, the protection rate is also nearly 80%. However, Jones stressed that the protection rate of Kexing and national drugs more than 50%, better than completely ineffective.
