Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaks at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at the Hyatt Regency in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 27, 2021. The conference began in 1974.
Several leaders of U.S. intelligence agencies testified Wednesday (April 14) at a public hearing on “global threats” before Congress. During the hearing, the director of national intelligence responded to questions about the origin of the Chinese Communist virus (Wuhan pneumonia) by not ruling out the possibility of a leak from the Wuhan lab, saying she “is continuing to look at this issue” to “provide a more compelling explanation. The same day, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on the Biden administration to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for its actions.
At Wednesday’s hearing, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Vice Chairman Marco Rubio questioned Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines about the origin of the COVID-19 virus, a disease caused by the Chinese Communist Party.
Haines said the U.S. intelligence community does not yet know where, when and how the new coronavirus (CCP virus) first spread. She said there are two “theories” about the origin of the coronavirus: human contact with infected animals or a laboratory leak.
“We are continuing to look at this issue, gathering information and doing what we can to provide a more convincing explanation.” Hines asked her colleagues in the room to help add to her statement while addressing the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
William J. Burns, director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), went on to say, “One thing that is clear to us and to our analysts is that the Chinese (Communist Party) leadership has not been fully forthcoming or fully transparent in its cooperation with WHO (World Health Organization) and has not provided the kind of raw, complete data that would help answer these questions. So we’re doing everything we can to try to get to the bottom of this, using all the channels we have on this panel.”
Senator Rubio, who questioned them, said it was plausible that an “accident in the lab” caused the virus to escape.
“We have reasons to believe that this makes sense. First, researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology have demonstrated from their published records that they are skilled at genetically modifying bat coronaviruses.”
“Second, several documented laboratory leaks have occurred in China, including one involving the original SARS virus.” He continued, “Third, U.S. diplomats who visited the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2019 warned that they saw the risks posed by substandard security (there).”
Pompeo: World Is Seeing Communist China’s Line in Pandemic
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday on Fox News’ “America Reports” that the Chinese government’s irresponsible handling of the early stages of the pandemic has caused “so many deaths around the world. “. He said it was reassuring that the world is seeing this (the Chinese Communist Party’s bad behavior).
Pompeo said “we have a great deal of evidence” that the Wuhan Institute of Virology “is likely the source of the virus.
The former secretary of state said he would like to see the Biden administration do more to find the source of the virus while continuing to deal with the outbreak. He hopes the Biden administration will “get serious” about determining the origin of the virus and holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable for its actions.
“I hope they (the Biden administration) can unite the world,” he said, “and now the world can see what the Chinese Communist Party has done to them. Europe, India and Brazil are all still struggling with the Wuhan virus. The biosafety (standards) in their (Chinese Communist) labs are not enough to assure us that this will not happen again.”
Current Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday (11) that the pandemic was made worse by the Chinese Communist Party’s failure to provide global health experts with the opportunity to learn the truth.
He also told NBC’s political program Meet the Press that it is important to “get to the bottom” of the virus. The Chinese Communist Party has not provided access to international experts, nor has it shared information in real time, and there is no transparency.
“The (Chinese Communist Party virus) is getting out of control faster and faster. I think it’s a much worse situation than it (could have been).” Blinken said.
Pompeo also addressed WHO on Wednesday’s show, reminding the U.S. government to remain disengaged from the organization rather than rejoin, as President Biden would like.
“Don’t go back to the World Health Organization without any changes (to WHO).” He said.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said March 30 that WHO investigators traveled to China to study the origins of the pandemic and that the Chinese side did not provide relevant data.
