AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals’ (AZ) Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) vaccine is suspected to be linked to blood clots, raising suspicions in several European countries. Sources quoted in Danish media today said that Denmark will later announce a complete national suspension of the AZ vaccine, which would make the country the first to ban its use.
Reuters reports that the Danish health agency first delayed the AZ vaccine for several weeks because of the potential for blood clots, while local Danish media quoted unnamed sources as saying that the health agency is now preparing to hold a press conference at 12 noon local time on Wednesday to announce the complete suspension of the vaccine.
The newspaper reported that if Denmark suspends the AZ vaccine, it will delay the country’s universal vaccination program by about four weeks, and details will be announced at a press conference later.
