Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to move on to become State President

In comprehensive news, the 11th session of the 14th National Assembly of Vietnam, which is currently in session, has elected a new top leader of Vietnam.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc was nominated as President of the country on April 2, while the National Assembly of Vietnam also removed Nguyen Phu Trong from the post of President of the country. Nguyen Phu Trong has been successfully re-elected as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam in January this year. It is believed that the top seat of power in Vietnam is basically set.

Overseas pro-China website Dovetail News pointed out that Nguyen Xuan Phuc, now 67, and Nguyen Phu Trong both overstayed their terms, the result of the Vietnamese Communist Party’s massive anti-corruption and emphasis on ideological political struggle since 2016. Through this series of actions, the Vietnamese Communist Party has overhauled its officialdom and improved its efficiency. The resulting political structure has many similarities to the “Central Leading Committee for Comprehensively Deepening Reform” mechanism led by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, through various areas such as economy and culture, and is an emulation of the top-level design of the CPC.

However, some experts have pointed out that since the change of government in 2016, Vietnam is gradually moving away from China’s influence and towards the United States. For example, Vietnam has abolished its household registration system and is discussing the possibility of privatizing land.
