Former Trump Department of Homeland Security officials accused the Biden administration of dismissing almost all of the former members of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC), which one former official described as a purge, intended to get rid of everything in the council. A former official described it as a purge, intended to get rid of all opposition in the committee.
Fox News (Fox News) 27 reported that Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas (Alejandro Mayorkas) sent a letter to the committee, said the current committee of more than 30 members of the position, he intends to remove, until the development of a “new model” and then set up.
Mayorkas said the committee chairman William Bratton (William Bratton), vice chairman Tandy (Karen Tandy) and honorary chairman Webster (William Webster) will remain in office to help the committee continue to operate.
Forsyth News pointed out that HSAC members are not given a job, the establishment of the committee is to allow members to contribute their expertise and experience to help homeland security matters, such as anti-terrorism and enforcement of immigration laws, to provide guidance to the Secretary.
Some former officials said they were surprised by the manner in which most of the committee members were dismissed. Former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf tweeted, “While I respect the Secretary’s authority to replace HSAC to meet his needs, the removal of the entire committee and the shutdown of so much (ongoing) important work is not the right move.
Former Acting Deputy Secretary of State for National Security Ken Cuccinelli was more vocal, calling his dismissal and that of the other commissioners “an excellent example of a mass slashing, old-school purge.
Cuccinelli pointed out that the Department of State Security’s move coincides with other moves by the new Biden Administration, which aims to suppress national security information, especially information about the border; Cuccinelli’s statement echoes criticism of the Biden administration by Republican members of Congress and the media community, saying that the government has blocked channels to deny media access to relevant agencies at a Time when the border crisis is ongoing.
Guccinelli accused the Biden administration of a border administration style most like the Stalinist era in Soviet Russia, which tolerated no dissent and was the only one he had seen since he grew up.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that Mayorkas will discuss the matter in its entirety and envision the best way for the committee to advise DHS on how to create a new committee that is pluralistic and representative of the nation and its communities; DHS also stressed that there will be bipartisan participation in the new committee.
