German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today that the embargo control will be extended until April 18 to contain the third wave of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in the country. She also urged people to stay Home for five days during the Easter holiday.
Angela Merkel met overnight with the heads of 16 states to reverse the gradual economic restart plan agreed earlier this month and instead take a tough stance against the disease.
In addition to extending existing restrictions such as the closure of cultural, leisure and sports facilities, Merkel and the heads of the 16 states also agreed to a stricter lockdown between April 1 and 5.
During these five days, businesses will be almost completely shut down, religious activities during the Easter holiday will be conducted online, and only grocery stores selling livelihood goods will be allowed to open on Saturday, April 3.
