Against? Democratic Congressman Accuses Biden Administration of Violating Human Rights of Underage Immigrants, Demands Funding

Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democrat who represents California, cited a report over the weekend that did not specifically name minor immigrants who are in the country illegally are being abused in temporary resettlement facilities.

In an interview on Microsoft’s MSNBC, Khanna said, “I just read a report that some of these kids have no Food, they can’t shower, they’re held for more than 72 hours, they don’t go to a refugee resettlement office, and they don’t have a lawyer.”

Kana said, “These are human rights violations. We need to expedite and make sure they are allowed to apply for asylum. We need to expedite their reunification with their families and not keep them in prison, at least with food and proper shelter.”

Newsweek reported that Khanna was interviewed because the U.S. Department of health (HHS) may place immigrant minors at NASA’s Moffett Federal Airfield, which is in Khanna’s district.

Khanna told reporters that he has told officials that if Moffett Federal Airfield is used to house the children, they would have to be held to a “very high standard of care. Khanna also urged Congress to “provide funding for refugee resettlement sites” to ensure that children receive “proper care” when applying for asylum.

But as Breitbart News reported, another Democrat, Rep. Henry Cuellar, said he visited youths placed in a Texas facility that has been in good condition for years.

In an interview with National Public Radio (NPR), Cuellar said, “They have Education there, they do distance learning there, there’s medical care and a cafeteria, not cages. But it’s a vendor-run facility, a contractor that’s been doing this for many years, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) uses this contractor, the Department of Health uses it.”

Kural said, “We saw where they slept. We saw where they showered. We see where they get their education. We see where they get legal services. We see where they’re brought in for the first Time and given new clothes.”

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in February 2021, there were 9,297 unaccompanied illegal immigrant alien children in custody.
