Republican Senator Rick Scott recently wrote on Fox that the U.S. condones the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party, making it the greatest threat to U.S. national security and economic security today. He pointed out that a “freedom first” strategy must be adopted to deal with the Chinese Communist Party, and made four proposals in the areas of strategic decoupling and improving human rights.
In his article, Scott said that a bipartisan “freedom first” strategy must be adopted to protect freedoms around the world from the growing power of the Chinese Communist Party. At the same Time, the U.S. interests should be put first, and U.S. global leadership should be restored.
On strategic decoupling, he said the Communist Party has long engaged in forced technology transfer, intellectual property theft and espionage to undermine America’s position in the world militarily, economically and technologically. Over the past four years, the U.S. has taken unprecedented actions: banning Americans from investing in Chinese companies that support the Communist Party’s military and blacklisting them from trade; banning cotton imports from Xinjiang due to forced labor; and protecting U.S. universities and research labs from Communist espionage and IP theft, effectively curbing Communist aggression against the United States.
Scott argues that strategic decoupling from the CCP is the most effective way to limit Xi’s power, protect American jobs and security, rebuild America’s supply chain, and create countless homegrown jobs. He dismissed claims by U.S. politicians and business groups that “decoupling from the CCP would hurt U.S. businesses” and emphasized that when American families buy products made in China, they are supporting the communist regime while turning a blind eye to Xi’s ambitions and the suffering of the Chinese people and focusing on short-term profits, which is not the future America wants.
On the issue of improving human rights he said that Xi Jinping has denied the people of Hong Kong their basic human rights and committed genocide against the Uighurs. These horrific abuses cannot be ignored, and every freedom-loving nation in the world must unite to condemn and say no to the CCP’s gross violations of human rights. Scott also led a bipartisan group of lawmakers to demand that the IOC relocate the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing to a country that truly respects human rights unless the CCP stops its human rights abuses. Several countries and groups have already issued calls to boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics.
In response to the CCP’s threat, Scott has made four recommendations.
First, effective policies for fair trade and accountability to the CCP must continue.
Second, the CCP must be strategically eliminated from the U.S. supply chain by supporting the return of key industries to the United States and promoting a buy American made policy.
Third, must align with the international community, gain the full support of allies, and work together to pressure the CCP until it complies with all U.S. and international trade laws.
Fourth, the world must be led to end the CCP’s gross human rights violations and genocide against the Chinese people.
Scott also urged the Biden administration that the Chinese Communist Party must be held accountable by using all the tools at its disposal for the security of the United States and the world.
