Japan’s “Yomiuri Shimbun” reported that Japan, the United States, Australia, India, a four-nation “Quadrilateral Security Dialogue” (Quad) plans to join France, in early April in the first five-nation joint maritime military exercises held off the coast of India, aimed at containing China’s power in the Indo-Pacific region.
The report said that Indian government officials said that Japan, the United States, Australia, India and France 5 countries of the joint maritime military exercises, has entered the final stage of coordination. The analysis pointed out that the “Quadrilateral Security Dialogue” hopes to cooperate with European countries to jointly restrain China’s power in the Indo-Pacific region.
The joint maritime military exercise was initiated by India and is expected to be held in the Bay of Bengal off the east of India. 5 countries are studying the participation of military or self-defense force destroyers and submarines.
Japan, the United States, Australia and India have already held the “Malabar military exercises” (Malabar) in the Indian Ocean in November 2020.
France, which has territories or bases in the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific, is also concerned about China’s expansion in the Indo-Pacific region. France is the first European country to incorporate the “Indo-Pacific” concept into its security policy, which will be announced in 2018. French Defense Minister Florence Parly earlier discussed with India and Australia the establishment of a “triangular dialogue mechanism” with the three countries as the backbone.
France’s direct investment in the Indo-Pacific region amounted to $ 176 billion, west to the coast of Africa, east to the South Pacific near Australia’s Coral Sea (Coral Sea), which includes French overseas possessions.
