Hua Chunying mourns Japan’s 311 earthquake with a message

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying also tweeted in Chinese and Japanese on the 11th, expressing her sincere condolences to The Japanese people and “looking forward to the early completion of the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affected areas”, to their surprise, many netizens thought that Hua Chunying’s words had a deeper meaning, as a sarcasm that Japan has not completed its post-disaster reconstruction in 10 years.

Hua Chunying tweeted at around 7pm on the 11th, “10 years ago today, the Tohoku region of Japan was hit by a strong earthquake and tsunami, causing significant casualties and property damage. We express our sincere condolences to the Japanese people. We sincerely hope that with the joint efforts of the Japanese government and all sectors, the affected areas will be rebuilt and rehabilitated as soon as possible.”

Below the tweet, many Japanese people responded, “Thank you.”

However, some netizens also pointed out that when Hua Chunying said, “Looking forward to the early completion of the reconstruction and revival of the affected areas,” she was basically saying that Japan is not working and “how Japan has not completed the reconstruction after 10 years.”
