Park Young-joon, head of the epidemiological investigation support team at the South Korean Central Epidemic Control Headquarters, pointed out at a regular press conference today that so far, there have been three cases that tested positive after having received the first dose of Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19). The number of confirmed cases is expected to increase again, according to the epidemic prevention department.
The three cases include two nurses at the National Central Medical Hospital who were diagnosed with the infection after receiving the first dose of Pfizer vaccine, while the identity of the remaining case has not been confirmed, according to the Korean media.
The three cases are explained by Park Young-joon according to the route of infection, it is possible that they were infected not long after the first dose of vaccine, the vaccine just received may not have taken effect, or they may have been infected before the vaccination. Park Young-joon said that the scale will be evaluated after comparing the information of vaccinated and confirmed people.
In addition, considering the local epidemic and the fact that the vaccination program has just started, the number of confirmed cases is expected to increase again.
It is reported that the epidemic prevention department is investigating the route of infection, and it has been determined that there is no direct connection with the vaccination center in the National Central Medical Hospital.
The cases diagnosed after vaccination will not be the target of the second dose.
