Lack of safety data, EU warns Russian vaccines are “like Russian roulette”

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) warned countries today not to authorize the emergency use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine because it is like a “Russian roulette.

Russian roulette is a Life-and-death gambling game in which participants put a bullet into one of the six chambers of a revolver nest, then close the nest and spin it rapidly; after the rotation stops, participants then take turns pointing the gun at their heads and pulling the trigger until someone is shot, or is afraid to press the trigger.

AFP reported that Christa Wirthumer-Hoche, chairman of the EMA management board, told the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) that there was not yet sufficient data on the safety of the Sputnik V vaccine for vaccination and that “in a way, it could be compared to Russian roulette.” , “I am strongly opposed to it receiving a national emergency use authorization.”

The EU Medicines Agency is also currently conducting a rolling review of the Sputnik V vaccine. Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said he would wait until the EMA approved it before starting to administer it, but Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries that have acquired the Sputnik V vaccine said they would not wait for the EMA to announce it and would plan to go ahead with the vaccination.
