The governors of several U.S. states have announced that they have lifted their state’s ban on the Chinese Communist virus (COVID-19) or are considering doing so, with some states lifting mandatory muzzling orders and implementing full unseals to resume economic activity everywhere.
Utah’s statewide muzzling order is scheduled to end April 10 under a law passed March 5, and Republican Gov. Spencer Cox told Fox News Saturday (May 6) that he will not veto the law.
Cox said, “We anticipate that by April 1, every adult in Utah will have the opportunity to be vaccinated.” He said Utah “will have about 1.5 million doses of vaccine before the muzzle order is lifted on April 10.”
In addition, Texas, Mississippi, Iowa, Montana and North Dakota have now ended (or are about to end) their statewide muzzle orders in the midst of the C.C.V. pandemic. While Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Tennessee never required mandatory masks in public places.
Gov. Kay Ivey, an Alabama Republican, said March 4 that the state will end its mask order in about a month and said that starting April 9, wearing a mask will be “a matter of personal responsibility, not a government mandate.”
On March 2, both Mississippi and Texas ended their mask requirements and allowed businesses to start full operations.
In a Facebook post, Republican Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said, “We will lift all county-level mask orders and businesses will be able to operate fully without any state-mandated restrictions.” “Our hospitalizations and case counts have dropped dramatically, and vaccines are being distributed rapidly. It’s Time!”
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Texas will be “100 percent open.
Abbott noted, “Too many Texans are being shut out of jobs. Too many small business owners have been struggling to pay their bills. This has to end.”
Democratic Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont also announced he would repeal certain CCP Virus rules, including capacity limits on the number of people at corporate and sporting events. He said amusement parks could also be opened. But Lamont said the mask mandate imposed in Connecticut will remain in place.
In February, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, a Republican, lifted the muzzling order and said, “We know what we need to do and don’t need government authorization to do it.” And Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) has allowed the state’s muzzling order to expire last month.
Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey recently announced that he will implement the “next phase of the business and safety agreement,” which includes lifting restrictions on the number of people at commercial events and bringing back major sporting events. Ducey said, but wearing a mask and maintaining social distance are still required.
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican, said he would lift the limit on the number of people in restaurants, bars, and other businesses, but masks would still be required.
Justice said, “I’m going to continue to listen to the medical experts. We absolutely want you to continue to wear a mask. You know, I’m not a fan of masks either. But we know they’ve saved a lot of lives and we know we’re still in the game and can’t let our guard down too soon.”
