Arizona to lift outbreak restraining order Open for business

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) speaks at a Phoenix press conference last December.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, a Republican, announced Friday (March 5) that Arizona will open businesses and end restrictions on the number of business patrons while continuing to maintain social distancing and wearing masks.

Based on a seven-week decline in cases of C.C.V. infections in Arizona and the distribution of more than 2 million doses of C.C.V. vaccine, Ducey issued an executive order to lift restrictions on the percentage of indoor patrons at businesses such as restaurants, gyms, theaters, water parks, bowling alleys and bars.

The executive order also prohibits local authorities from implementing “extreme measures to shut down businesses. “We have learned a lot in the past year,” Doe said in a statement, “and our businesses have done an outstanding job of responding to the coronavirus outbreak in a safe and responsible manner. We will always admire these businesses and their employees for the sacrifices they have made to prevent the spread of the virus.”

Dew also stressed that unlike other states, Arizona has not ordered a lockdown despite calls from “bipartisan extremists.

But Doe also cautioned, “Today’s announcement is a trade-off, and at this point we haven’t completely eradicated the Epidemic. We also need to continue to wear masks and maintain social distance responsibly. If you get sick, please stay Home and wash your hands often.”

According to the New York Times, the average daily number of new coronavirus infections across the U.S. dropped 28 percent this week compared to the past two weeks. At the same Time, the average daily number of deaths from the infection has dropped sharply by 29 percent.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, a Democrat, has announced Thursday night (March 4) that the state will lift its restraining order on businesses in the coming weeks based on the declining number of cases and increased vaccination numbers. Beginning March 19, Connecticut restaurants, retail stores, museums, gyms, offices and other brick-and-mortar establishments will lift restrictions on the number of patrons, but people should continue to wear masks and maintain social distance.

In addition to Arizona and Connecticut, Mississippi and Texas announced earlier this week that they would lift the state’s mandatory mask orders and restrictions on the number of patrons at businesses.
