New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been accused of sexual harassment by a former aide, and now another former aide has come forward with allegations.
“The New York Times reports that the second person to come forward is Charlotte Bennett, a 25-year-old former health adviser, who alleges that Cuomo, 63, told her last June that he was happy to date women in their 20s and asked her if she thought age would be an issue in relationships between men and women.
Bennett also said she was transferred to another building after talking to Cuomo’s chief of staff and legal counsel about the incident. Because she liked her new job, she decided not to insist that authorities must investigate the matter.
Cuomo said on the 27th, “I never did anything wrong with Ms. Bennett, nor did I ever want to misbehave with her”; he said he was trying to encourage Bennett, who told her she had been sexually harassed. The company is looking forward to a “full and thorough external investigation” into the allegations before making a “judgment”.
In addition, Lindsey Boylan, a former Cuomo aide, accused her of being sexually harassed by Cuomo while working for his administration from 2015 to 2018. Many political figures have called for an investigation into the matter, and New York City Mayor Michael White has also come forward on the 25th to say “we have to know the truth”.
Recently, Cuomo has been caught in a storm over his mishandling of the spread of an Epidemic in the state’s long term care facilities. In August of last year, the Trump administration’s Department of Justice requested data from New York, New Jersey, California and other Democratic states on deaths in state senior homes due to the epidemic in early 2020.
After New York State Attorney General Letitia James pointed out that the Cuomo administration had underestimated the number of people who died from the epidemic by thousands, the state was forced to revise the total number of deaths from 8,500 to 15,000.
New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-N.Y.) has also faced bullying charges after Cuomo vowed to “destroy” him because of his criticism of Cuomo over the nursing Home issue.
