Pompeo slams Biden’s “depressing” policy toward Communist China

Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is pictured here. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized Biden’s stance on the Chinese Communist regime, noting that the policy shift from the Trump administration has been “discouraging” to the American people.

In a late Saturday (Feb. 20) interview on “Newsmax” television, the former top U.S. diplomat blasted the current administration for failing to condemn the Chinese Communist regime’s genocidal persecution of Uighur Muslims.

“This is one of the most horrific human activities we’ve seen since the last century. The (U.S.) government has a responsibility …… to convince the Chinese Communist Party not to act in that way and, when they do, to put (pressure on them to pay) the price.” Pompeo said.

Biden and CCP on the same page

Pompeo pointed out that Biden’s statement is what the CCP has been saying all along. “To skim over it (the genocide policy) as just a different norm or a different set of behaviors, that’s what the Chinese Communist Party is saying,” he said. “That’s the way they talk about it.”

The former secretary of state said he was saddened by Biden’s downplaying of the behavior of Beijing authorities.

“It’s frustrating to hear (Biden) speak without any hint that this has to be taken seriously,” Pompeo said. “I wish the (current) administration would take it as seriously as they did when we were in office.”

Pompeo’s remarks were a response to a statement Biden made at a CNN town hall meeting on Feb. 16. At that meeting, when asked about the Uighur genocide under the Beijing authorities, Biden instead defended it by bringing up global cultural differences.

He said, “Xi’s central principle is that there must be a unified, tightly controlled China, and he applies his own reasoning to do things on that basis. I pointed out to him that if an American president cannot reflect American values, then he cannot be president.”

“Therefore, I will not oppose the idea of what he did. … He said he understood.”

“Culturally speaking, there are different norms that every country and its leaders expect to follow.”

Biden’s cabinet has a very different attitude toward the Beijing authorities

The attitudes of Biden’s cabinet members also vary widely in their stance toward the Chinese Communist Party.

Despite Biden’s pro-CCP statements, the current Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has not been able to make the same statements. The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has endorsed Pompeo’s approach to Beijing’s genocide against the Uighurs, saying he is “very much in line” with his predecessor on the issue.

Blinken said on Jan. 19, “President Trump is right to take a tougher approach to the Chinese Communist Party, and I strongly disagree with him in many areas, but (Trump’s) basic principles are correct.”

Unlike Blinken, however, Biden’s special envoy John Kerry John Kerry agreed with Beijing authorities that the U.S.-China divide could be set aside to address climate change, a complete reversal of the Trump Administration‘s policy toward the Communist Party in that area.

On Sunday, former Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette, a cabinet official in the Trump administration, said he would like to discuss the issue. Dan Brouillette, a Trump administration cabinet official and former energy secretary, criticized Kerry for being “misguided” and said the Chinese government has no intention of delivering on its promises.
