Virginia’s Senator Jen Kiggans (D), despite being elected as a conservative, has taken a clear leftward turn in just over a year in office, the U.S. media outlet National Archives reported Sunday. Last Friday (Feb. 19) she joined far-left Democrats, along with other members of the Republican establishment, in voting to rewrite a portion of the Virginia Constitution, overturning a ban on same-sex Marriage that a majority of Virginia voters approved in a 2006 referendum.
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down a nationwide ban on same-sex marriage in 2015, but some state legislatures, pushed by the Equality Federation gay lobby, have sought to remove or rewrite constitutional amendments and laws that define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Nevada was the first state to successfully rewrite its constitution.
The bill to rewrite the Virginia Constitution was sponsored by gay Rep. Mark Sickles, D-Nevada, and Joint Resolution HJ582 overturned the current language in the state constitution and redefined marriage as “a fundamental right inherent in the liberty of man.
The bill received nearly unanimous support from the increasingly left-leaning Democrats in the Virginia House and Senate, but four abstained from voting. A handful of establishment Republicans, including Senator Keegans, voted in favor of the resolution.

While Keegans’ name has surfaced as a potential candidate for the U.S. Congress in Virginia’s 2nd District in 2022, her votes cast throughout her term in Richmond (VA) have already made conservative voters who voted for her in 2019 cringe.
In addition to voting for HJ582, Keegans cast the deciding vote in the Virginia legislature’s consideration of ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, which would lead to the emergence of gender-neutral bathrooms, the expansion of abortion on demand, and male participation in women’s sports.
