The latest poll shows that Australian Prime Minister Morrison leads Labor Leader Albanese (26%) as preferred Prime Minister (61%).
The latest Newspoll poll shows that Federal Prime Minister Morrison’s popularity continues to rise, maintaining a commanding lead over Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese as preferred prime minister.
The latest poll results, conducted exclusively by Newspoll, were released on Sunday night (Feb. 21) by The Australian website. Ahead of the Australia-wide launch of the vaccination against the Chinese Communist virus (Wuhan pneumonia) on Monday, Prime Minister Morrison’s voter support has soared to the highest level since he became prime minister as he slammed the news ban imposed on Australia by technology giant Facebook.
The poll results show that in terms of preferred prime minister, Morrison’s approval rating rose four points to 61 percent, cementing his dominant position as the preferred leader of Australians. Albanese’s approval rating, however, dropped 3 percentage points to 26%. This is the largest gap between the two since last August.
Voter satisfaction with Morrison’s rule as leader rose 1 point to 64%, the highest level since Morrison became prime minister, and the longest support for a prime minister has been maintained; dissatisfaction with him fell 1 point to 32%.
However, the poll does not take into account the impact of criticism of the Morrison government over its handling of the rape allegations against Brittany Higgins, a former female employee of the Defense Department.
The poll showed that voter satisfaction with Albanese fell 3 points to 38 percent; dissatisfaction was 45 percent. His net approval rating is the lowest since he became Labor Party leader.
In terms of the two-party bias vote, support for the Coalition and Labor remains at 50-50.
But on the first-past-the-post vote, Labor’s support rose 1 point to 37%, while the Coalition’s remained at 42%.
The Green Party’s support rate remains at 10%; Han San’s One Nation Party’s support rate also remains stable, still at 3%. However, the overall first ballot support of other minor parties and independent MPs dropped by 1 point to 8%.
The poll was conducted from February 17 to 20 this year. 1504 voters from mainland Australian state capital cities and remote areas took part in the online survey.
According to Crisispedia, on Nov. 30 last year, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian posted a tweet with a satirical cartoon suspected of vilifying the killings by Australian troops in Afghanistan. The tweet sparked an outcry from Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who dismissed it as a “fake photo” and “spreading false information” and demanded a retraction and apology from the Chinese government.
Morrison opposes Marriage for same-sex couples. In January 2021, Morrison warned that Beijing‘s global ambitions had become “even more inconsistent” with Australia’s sovereign interests.
Morrison has also repeatedly criticized the Chinese Communist Party in high profile, with the public commenting that “the more Anti-Communist you are, the more you win the hearts and minds of the people, and the one who wins the hearts and minds of the people wins the world.”
