The National Archives reports that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has announced that Florida flags will fly at half-staff in honor of Rush Limbaugh.
The move to honor the stand-up comedy icon and longtime Florida resident has angered liberals on social media.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced Friday that “we will order flags to be lowered to half-staff in the state in honor of stand-up comedy icon and Florida resident Rush Limbaugh,” who died this week at age 70 after suffering complications from the effects of lung cancer, according to reports.
DeSantis said at a news conference, “I know they’re still trying to figure out the arrangements, but what we do when there’s something this big, once the date of Rush’s burial is announced, we’ll lower the flags to half-staff.” His words were met with a round of applause.
Limbaugh moved from New York to Florida around 2010 after citing frustration with tax increases in Democratic-run New York.
During the 2016 election, Limbaugh became close friends with President Donald Trump, who also lives in Florida, and the two have been seen playing together on Florida golf courses on various occasions.
President Trump revealed in an interview this week that he had nicknamed Limbaugh “The Bull” on the golf course because of his impressive prowess.
Newsmax TV host Greg Kelly asked President Trump, “Mr. President,… Who’s the better golfer, you or Rush Limbaugh? Because I’ve seen you guys play together on the golf course.”
President Trump said, “I won’t say, I won’t say, but I’ll tell you this about Rush.” I used to call him ‘Bull’ because he was a strong — you know, in the golden years, he was a strong guy who would hit the ball a long way, and when he hit the ball a long way, I called him ‘Bull.'”
President Trump added: “He was a strong guy, he was a great guy, he’ll be missed, there’s nobody like him, even you, as a professional, would say that. I mean, there’s just no one like him.”
The date of Limbaugh’s funeral has not been publicly announced.
