The female secretary of Choi Leung, director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai (Shanghai Office), hanged herself in Choi Leung’s office on the 18th. Multiple Hong Kong media sources said the suicide victim was the female secretary of Shanghai-based office director Cai Liang, a native of mainland China who had worked at the office for three years. She was sacked by Cai Liang on the night of New Year’s Eve before the New Year holiday, and hanged herself in Cai Liang’s office on Feb. 18, the first day of work after the Yellow New Year holiday, during her lunch break that day.
A spokesman for the Shanghai office confirmed that a mainland staff member of the Hong Kong government office in Shanghai passed away tragically on the 18th at the office, and all the staff were deeply saddened and sorry, and sent their deepest condolences to the Family of the colleague.

Cai Liang succeeded Deng Zhongmin as director of the Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai in March 2020. Prior to that, Cai Liang was the Yau Tsim Mong District Officer and served as the Returning Officer for the South District of Hong Kong Island’s Hoi Yee West constituency in the 2019 District Council election.
