A new report released by Republican members of the House of Representatives says President Joe Biden‘s immigration policy will harm Americans by undoing Trump‘s immigration policies, reducing border security and internal law enforcement, and increasing the risk of criminal activity by aliens.
The report was prepared by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, and the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship (HJC). The report is co-authored by Rep. Tom McClintock, R-California, a senior member of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship.
The report warns that the Biden Administration appears poised to adopt a series of new immigration policies that would “encourage illegal immigration and contribute to an endless influx of foreigners into the United States.”
One of Biden’s new immigration policies is the expansion of administrative Amnesty policies. Since the beginning of 2019, former President Trump has enacted at least five policies that attempt to curb executive amnesty policies for illegal immigrants. Trump Administration officials argue that these policies are intended to address the backlog of unfounded asylum claims and respond to the dramatic increase in border arrests. Border arrests spiked to a 13-year high in May 2020. The Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP)-also known as the “Stay in Mexico” program-is a Trump-era policy that requires asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for A U.S. court hearing decision.
Jordan and McClintock said in the report that Trump instituted the policy “to send a message to foreigners that they will not be released into the United States while awaiting immigration court hearings if they travel to the United States and apply for asylum. They noted that most asylum applications have no legal basis and that it is unreasonable to allow asylum seekers to reside in the U.S. for years while some cases go through the court process.
On Friday (Feb. 12), the Biden administration announced a new plan to put thousands of Mexican asylum seekers into the United States. These people are currently in Mexico under the framework of the “Border Protection Program” waiting to be allowed to enter the United States, while their cases are still being processed through the immigration courts.
According to the authorities, according to Biden’s plan, the first batch of about 25,000 asylum seekers in accordance with the Trump-era “stay in Mexico and wait for the trial” policy, will be allowed to enter the United States on February 19.
“This latest action is another step in our commitment to reform immigration policies that are inconsistent with our national values,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement. The statement said the move is part of the Biden administration’s “phased strategy to reform the U.S. immigration system.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security said the statement “should not be interpreted as allowing people to immigrate to the United States irregularly.”
But in their report, Representatives Jordan and McClintock warned that those considering entering the United States illegally would see Biden’s immigration policy reforms as an invitation to do so.
They wrote, “The Trump administration has taken concrete steps to curb the push factors that encourage illegal immigration into the United States and has implemented an immigration policy that puts the safety and security of the American people first.”
They said, “If the Biden administration continues to roll back President Trump’s successes on immigration policy and continues to implement an aggressive immigration agenda, it will result in a less secure border, less internal enforcement, and an increased risk of criminals and other foreigners who want to do us harm.”
Another policy Republican members of Congress opposed Biden on was his call to halt the construction of the border wall. On his first day in office, Biden signed a presidential order halting the construction of Trump’s border wall.
In their report, they noted, “His decision ignores the demands of local Border Patrol agents and the need for a border wall to deter illegal border crossings.”
Trump also limited the previously controversial “catch-and-release” process, whereby illegal aliens are no longer released into U.S. territory but are instead turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. Two Republicans said the measure “deters illegal immigration and fraudulent asylum claims. But in a presidential order, Biden revived the “catch-and-release” policy.
The Trump administration has also deported 1 million deportable aliens from the United States.
Republicans said, “Instead, President Biden has instituted a 100-day moratorium on deportations that will send many criminals and unvetted aliens into American communities.”
In their report, Jordan and McClintock conclude that Biden’s reversal in response to Trump’s immigration policy seeks “a repeat of the failed policies of the Obama-Biden administration, which will only make Americans less safe.”
Every American needs to fully understand the implications of these policies,” McClintock said at an online meeting of the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship on Feb. 11. “
“Our borders mean nothing if we don’t enforce our immigration laws,” he said. “If our borders are meaningless, we are no longer a nation.”
