The day before New Year’s Eve on the Chinese calendar (Feb. 10), the Communist Party of China (CPC) authorities held a reunion at the Great Hall in Beijing, where a number of young men sat around the main table where Xi Jinping and eight other top officials were seated. Outsiders questioned whether they were Zhongnanhai bodyguards to prevent others from surrounding them, reflecting the power struggle and mutual suspicion at the top of the Communist Party.

February 12 is the Chinese New Year and the 11th is New Year’s Eve. On February 10, the day before New Year’s Eve, the Communist Party authorities held a reunion meeting, which was attended by the seventh standing committee of the Communist Party’s Political Bureau, Vice President Wang Qishan and other senior officials. The meeting was hosted by Premier Li Keqiang and addressed by General Secretary Xi Jinping.

After Xi’s speech, he sat with the other six Politburo Standing Committee members and Wang Qishan at the main table in the middle to watch the performance on stage. But the outside world found in the video released by the CCP’s official media that there were many young men sitting around the tables surrounding the main table, forming a posture to defend the main table.

A netizen posted a question, “Who can tell me what these people in the circle are for?”

A stone has stirred up a thousand waves. Many netizens pointed out, “I guess (they) are security personnel.” “Zhongnanhai bodyguards .” “The package of Jin Yi Wei.” “This should be Xi’s personal guards! On the one hand in case of emergency, on the other hand to maintain order.”

“Look carefully in addition to the adjacent tables have back to the main table, the other tables back to the main table are not arranged to sit, should be the main table’s personal bodyguards.”

“The question is why security to sit at the table, normally appear on the side of the hall is enough, to say that to participate in the reunion should be the core members, and the need for such surveillance.”

“Protect the main table those few people. To do so is not trust the people other than the main table, the second is afraid of a rebellion of people in the field, to those at the secondary table to warn, knock the mountain shock tiger, so that others do not dare to make a mistake, which also shows that those few (people) more fainthearted.”

Some netizens also posted an image of Xi Jinping’s visit to a local area, with bodyguards standing as spectators in the crowd in case of misfortune, and said, “Do you understand this picture, read it, and you will understand that picture of yours.”

It is widely believed that the Chinese Communist Party is currently in the midst of internal and external difficulties, and this and next year are political years for the CCP, so the security consciousness of the CCP authorities is even stronger.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and next year is the 20th Communist Party Congress, not only the local top level will be changed, but also the top level of the Communist Party’s Politburo will be “changed”.

A number of commentators have recently told Epoch Times that the 20th CPC National Congress is not only about Xi Jinping’s ability to achieve a third term in office, or even a lifetime in power, but also about his personal safety.

Li Hengqing, a scholar at the Institute for Information and Strategic Studies in Washington, D.C., said, “2022 is a Life-and-death battle for Xi, and either he may be able to live up to his lifetime re-election or it may be his Waterloo.”
