Recently, Wu Jiekai, the former secretary of the Yichun Municipal Committee of Heilongjiang Province, who had “evaporated” for 16 years, was arrested. An article in the mainland media detailing Wu’s arrest said that Wu left his post without permission and was not heard from for many years until August 2020, when a person named “Mozhu” appeared and pushed the case forward, and Wu was finally caught in Chengdu.
The mainland media reported on Feb. 9 that Wu Jiekai, the former secretary of the party committee of the provincial General Bureau of Reclamation, was arrested and returned to the case on Jan. 21 after allegedly absconding from his post for 16 years.
After his capture, Wu Jiekai said he had expected this day to come.
The report said that Wu Jiekai, who is over 60 years old, was once the director of the research office of the Heilongjiang provincial government, the deputy secretary-general of the provincial government, and later served as the secretary of the Yichun municipal party committee and the secretary of the party committee of the Heilongjiang Provincial General Bureau of Reclamation.
In September 2004, Wu Jiekai suddenly left without permission and his whereabouts were unknown. Later, he was removed from his post and expelled from the Party.
In March 2006, the Heilongjiang Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection referred Wu Jiekai suspected of job-related crimes to the provincial procuratorate, which assigned the jurisdiction of Harbin City Procuratorate to Wu Jiekai suspected of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds. Heilongjiang informed that Wu Jiekai is the first fugitive returned to the cadres at the hall level since this year.
