As the Communist Party’s virus Epidemic spiraled out of control in 2020, a cluster of infections broke out in Rencheng Prison in Shandong Province, with 207 people diagnosed. Recently, five former Rencheng prison officials and prison staff were sentenced for negligence and obstructing the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.
According to the official WeChat public number of the Shandong Provincial High Court on the 8th, the local court sentenced three former judicial officials and two former and current prison employees on the same day.
Among them, Wang Wenjie, former deputy director of the Shandong Provincial Prison Administration, was convicted of negligence while in charge of epidemic prevention and control, which led to the spread of the epidemic in Rencheng Prison in Shandong Province. However, in view of the voluntary plea of guilty and punishment, he was sentenced to one year in prison.
Liu Baoshan, the former director of Rencheng Prison, was also sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison for negligence, while Deng Tihe, the former deputy director, was sentenced to 1 year in prison.
Rencheng prison driver Dai Guanghui and Rencheng prison employees Dai Guanghui and former instructor Chen Minhua were sentenced to 1 year in prison, suspended for 1 year, and 1 year and 6 months in prison, suspended for 2 years, respectively, for obstructing the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
The outbreak of the CCP virus, which originated in Wuhan, Hubei, resulted in at least 500 people contracting the disease in five prisons in Hubei, Zhejiang, and Shandong provinces. A total of 200 inmates and 7 staff members were infected, including a cluster of infections at Rencheng Prison.
After the incident, 11 people, including Xie Weijun, then director of justice in Shandong province, were removed from their posts and investigated for alleged serious violations of discipline.
Prisons and detention centers on the mainland are known as one of the most opaque areas. The abuse of detainees in prisons and the poor basic sanitation and living conditions in prisons have been exposed to the outside world.
