Ex-FBI lawyer framed Trump for falsifying documents in Russia scandal, sentenced to only probation

The Gateway Pundit reported Friday (Jan. 29) that former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith was sentenced to 12 months of probation, 400 hours of community service and no fines.

A lawyer tweeted, “Shameless former FBI lawyer sentenced to probation. Changing CIA emails, lying to FBI supervisors, causing the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) to lie to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA Court): the result is mere probation! Today’s message is that we live in an ugly world. “

U.S. Department of Justice special counsel, prosecutor John Durham, accused former FBI attorney Klein Smith of altering Page’s emails, which were the target of secret FBI surveillance, in order to get a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) warrant for the arrest of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Judge James Boasberg of the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA Court) held a hearing on Friday to rule on the case. Klein Smith had already been convicted last August of making false statements.

Klein Smith amended evidence provided by Page to support the arrest order. Page had previously been an informant for the CIA, but Kleinsmith amended the emails to say that Page was “never” an informant for the CIA.

Judge Boasberg allowed Mr. Page to speak at Friday’s sentencing hearing. Mr. Page said he began working with the CIA during his military service and never betrayed their trust. Page said his Life “spiraled out of control” after Obama executives falsely claimed he was a traitor and a Russian double agent.

Former FBI director Robert Mueller, the special counsel in charge of investigating Russian involvement in the 2016 election, had his men harass Page, searching his belongings and hotel rooms and taking photos in 2017.

Justice Department lawyer Scarpelli asked for a “more significant sentence” for Klein Smith, suggesting a sentence of 3-6 months in prison.

Klein Smith’s attorney rejected the FBI and DOJ’s request, saying that Klein Smith was not “the only one who made mistakes in his FISA warrant application,” and argued that Klein Smith “led a life of service to others. In addition, Leinsmith’s attorney tried to use the excuse that his client had been infected with the Chinese Communist virus to prevent the judge from sentencing him to prison.
