The Breitbart News reported on Wednesday (27) that a Rasmussen Reports survey released on Tuesday (26) showed that a majority of Republican voters support the prospect of a new political party for former President Trump.
The survey, conducted Jan. 21-24, 2021, asked 1,000 likely U.S. voters, “Would it be a good idea or a bad idea for former President Trump to potentially start a third political party?”
Many likely voters (45 percent) thought it was a bad idea, but a majority of Republican voters (53 percent) thought it was a good idea, as did 41 percent of those surveyed overall. The survey coincided with rumors that former President Trump was considering forming a new political party outside the current Republican Party, a rumor that Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel strongly denied.
“I’ve talked to Trump. Talked to others around the president as well. He’s not going to start a third political party.” McDaniel (R-Wis.) told Fox News on Tuesday.
Jason Miller, a senior Trump campaign adviser, also denied the idea that Trump is actively planning to form a third party. Miller said Trump “has made clear his goal is to take back the Republican House and Senate in 2022,” according to CNN. “Other than that, there are no other activities in active planning.”
