Former Democratic Presidential Candidate: Don’t Turn America Into a Police State

Former Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Calif.) answers questions from the media after a campaign event in New Hampshire, Feb. 9, 2020.

Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, condemned the new administration’s efforts to “eradicate domestic terrorism” in a series of tweets Tuesday (Jan. 26), noting that it would deny Americans their civil liberties. “Turning our country into a police state.”

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Gabbard denounced the fact that some politicians are joining forces with tech giants to undermine the civil liberties granted by the Constitution, thereby putting the United States “in great danger.

Gabbard said, “Let’s be clear, former CIA Director John Brennan, Democratic Congressman Adam Schiffs and the oligarchs of Big Tech are trying to undermine our constitutionally protected rights and turn our country into a KGB-style ‘surveillance’ police state. They too are domestic enemies and are more powerful, and therefore more dangerous, than the mob that stormed the Capitol.”

“President Biden, I call on you and all members of Congress from both parties to condemn the efforts of Brennan and others to try to deny us the civil liberties that are our Creator-given rights and guaranteed in our Constitution. If you do not stand up to them now, then our nation is in great danger.” She went on to say.

In an earlier interview with Microsoft-NBC, Brennan portrayed recent peaceful rallies around the country calling for a “stop to election theft” as an “insurgent movement” and vilified the participants “are often religious extremists, authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists, even liberals.

Last week, a bill to supposedly prevent domestic terrorism was introduced in the House of Representatives. White House press secretary Jen Psaki revealed on Friday (Jan. 22) that Biden had asked the director of national intelligence to assess “the domestic threat of violent extremism” and that the study was based on the theory that “the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and the tragic death and destruction that occurred the tragic death and destruction that occurred, underscores what we have known for a long Time: the rise of domestic extremism is a growing national security threat.”

Gabbard criticized such claims as attacking half the country as potential domestic terrorists, “which is so dangerous, and it’s something that all Democrats, Republicans, independents, and liberals should be extremely concerned about.”

In her tweets, she repeatedly called on the Biden Administration to “condemn those like Brennan and Rep. Schiff” and to “truly unite the American people around our Constitution and our Creator-given rights.”

“If our leaders fail to condemn and stop them now, then the country we love and cherish will cease to exist.” Gabbard said.
