According to US law, the transfer of power can only take place after the US General Services Administration (GSA) confirms that a party has won the election. The current situation is particularly complicated – on the one hand, the US media have announced that Biden was elected the next US President, on the other hand, Trump denied that he lost the election and declared that he would take legal action, and the counting of votes is still going on. So far, the Federal General Services Administration has not issued an official statement on the results of the election.
