ZJU hospital sudden explosion, many people injured, a nurse was cut

The first hospital affiliated with Zhejiang University Medical College suddenly had a big explosion on 22nd, which caused many injuries. And a nurse was cut. The suspect involved in the case has been controlled by the police, but the motive is unknown.

At about 10:55 a.m. on January 22, a suspected explosive detonation occurred in the blood purification center on the 5th floor of Building 6, Area B, at the First Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (hereinafter referred to as “ZJU Hospital”), causing injuries to three hospital staff and one patient. The suspect has been controlled by the police.

Chinese Communist Party officials informed on the evening of the 22nd that four people are receiving treatment, all non-Life-threatening.

A doctor at the First Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical College told the land media that the explosion occurred in Building 6, Area B. The upper floors are wards, and the lower floors are operating rooms and blood dialysis rooms. The bomb was a homemade gasoline bomb.

Several patients also said that someone put a homemade IED and the suspect is suspected to be a hemodialysis patient.

One patient said that there were more than 70 people in the hemodialysis room on the 5th floor of the hospital, and suddenly after hearing a loud bang, white smoke rose from the room, and the scene was chaotic.

Another patient said he was supposed to have a 4-hour treatment, but after 2 hours of doing so, he was suddenly asked to evacuate, “Someone was holding something, and then everyone in the hemodialysis room was evacuated urgently”.

A doctor passing through the first floor of Building 6 told the medical community that a nurse had been cut during the incident. At 6 p.m., staff at the resuscitation room said the injured nurse had been taken to the monitoring room.

The first hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine WeChat public number issued a notice that this emergency incident is not related to medical activities. According to preliminary information, the suspect has a criminal past and has been sentenced. The hospital said it was not convenient to disclose the situation of the injured and the suspect’s motive.

Hangzhou Public Security Bureau, Shangcheng District Branch and Zhejiang Hospital also issued a notice that the injured hospital staff and patients are currently under treatment, non-life-threatening. The suspect has been controlled by the police. The case is under further investigation.
