The Belarusian capital Minsk 22 cases of self-immolation, a 35-year-old man in the government building square self-immolation, the police and passers-by to extinguish the fire has been sent to hospital emergency. Authorities are not sure of the motive for the man’s self-immolation, and are investigating his background.
Reuters reported that the 35-year-old man had poured an unknown liquid on himself before setting himself on fire.
The incident occurred when the square was sparsely populated. Footage from the scene shows the man being set on fire in an open square in central Minsk. Some people then rushed towards him to try to put out the fire. The man was later taken to hospital for treatment.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko (Alexander Lukashenko) claims to have been re-elected in the August 9 election last year after a series of mass protests in the country, accusing Lukashenko of dictatorship, election fraud and the arrest of at least 15,000 dissidents. The European Union has also taken a stand to condemn Lukashenko.
