“Mystery surrounds number of deaths in New York nursing homes, cross-party lawmakers urge disclosure”
According to the New York State Department of health, nearly 8,400 nursing Home residents or people with disabilities have died from the Chinese Communist virus since the outbreak last March, but the department does not count the number of people who died while hospitalized after becoming ill.
New York State Democratic Congressman Kim Tui-Shi and Republican Congressman Byrne sent a joint letter to President Biden this week urging him to ask New York Governor Cuomo to disclose the true number of nursing home deaths in order to comfort the dead and their families.
According to the latest outbreak data, there were 13,886 new confirmed cases in New York State on the 20th, a confirmation rate of 6.18 percent, 1,000 new hospitalizations, and the total number of hospitalizations now stands at 9,055, with 174 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 33,594.
According to a survey conducted by the Siena College Research Center, 55% of the 804 New York residents surveyed between January 10th and 13th of this year believe that the worst of the plague is yet to come; only 31% do not.
Because of the impact of the Epidemic on residents’ lives, Governor Cuomo announced that the open enrollment period for health insurance in New York State, this year, will be extended until March 31st.
