90 members of Congress to challenge electoral votes Who are they?

According to statistics, 90 Republican U.S. Senators and Representatives have joined together to oppose the Electoral College voting results in some controversial states at a joint session of Congress held on January 6.

This includes 13 senators and 77 representatives.

On Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. EST, Congress convenes to count the votes certified by the electoral college in each state, which will determine who will become the next president.

If a member of Congress has a challenge to a state’s Electoral College certification, it must be made in writing and requires the support of at least one senator and one representative. The challenge will trigger a suspension of the joint session and up to two hours of debate in each house, followed by a vote on the challenge. A challenge will succeed only if both chambers support the challenge by a majority, and a successful challenge will result in the expiration of the state’s electoral votes.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (D-Calif.) told the Epoch Times on Tuesday, “I hope Americans will hear plenty of evidence from the debate.”

In a Jan. 5 letter to colleagues, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said House Democrats want the debate to show their respect for the Constitution and their respect for the will of the people.

Presidential candidates must receive 270 electoral votes to win, and if neither candidate reaches 270 votes, another voting mechanism is triggered – with each state in the House of Representatives represented – to elect the next president. The Senate then elects the vice president.

Pelosi and fellow Democrats say Biden has won this presidential election, but President Trump (Trump) and team say the election is not over.

Trump said this week that he continues to challenge the election fraud even though Biden has been certified as an elector by Congress. “That was a fraudulent election, but we’re still fighting it, and you’re going to see what happens down there,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Georgia on Monday.
