CPC revises United Front Work regulations, adds new tasks to Taiwan and overseas United Front Work

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) issued on January 5 the revised Regulations on the Work of the United Front of the CPC, which added many new tasks to the united front for Taiwan, including “developing and strengthening the patriotic unification forces in Taiwan” and “continuously promoting the peaceful reunification process of the motherland,” including Taiwanese people at home and abroad as targets of the united front.

The regulations also retain the original version of the regulations, including adherence to “one country, two systems”, opposing Taiwan independence and separatist activities, and promoting the unification of the motherland and other aspects.

At the same time, the regulations also added many overseas tasks of the United Front work, including “strengthening ideological and political leadership”, “promoting overseas Chinese and international students’ love for the motherland and their understanding and identification with the Communist Party of China and socialism with Chinese characteristics”, and encouraging overseas Chinese to integrate into the great cause of national rejuvenation.

While adding these expressions, the content of the original version, such as curbing Taiwan independence, has been retained, but the more moderate expressions in the original version, such as “gathering the hearts of overseas Chinese and guiding them”, have been deleted, making the relevant expressions in the new version more rigid.

Another important change is to take the name of the old version of the regulations to remove the word “trial”.
