Armenian Prime Minister in quarantine in London after President also hit by dart

Armenian President Sachsin’s office said today that Sachsin has been diagnosed with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and is currently in isolation in London. Sarkisian has been celebrating the New Year holiday in London with his family.

In a statement, Armen Sarkisian’s office said the 67-year-old Sarkisian “presented with symptoms of a new coronavirus and tested positive.

The statement said Sarkisian was in London “celebrating the New Year with his family and grandchildren” while undergoing surgery on his leg.

The Armenian president plays a largely ceremonial role, with real power mainly in the hands of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Pashinyan was also infected with the new coronavirus in June last year.

Armenia, a small country in the Caucasus with a population of about 3 million, has been struggling to contain the spread of the epidemic. According to the latest official figures today, 160,000 people are currently infected and 2,878 have died of the disease.
