Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Alexander S. Mackler is the name that appeared in the Hunter Biden email scandal. Now, the name has reappeared on the transition team of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, Hunter’s father, as part of a review and evaluation of new recruits to the Justice Department.
McClellan’s resume shows that he was a member of the Biden family inner circle, serving as press secretary to then-Senator Biden from 2007 to 2008; after Biden was elected vice president in 2009, he was reassigned to the office of Ted Kaufman (now head of Biden’s transition team), who succeeded Biden as senator, as director of communications; and in 2010, he was a member of Biden’s transition team. In 2010, he was the campaign manager for Biden’s eldest son, Beau Biden, for Delaware attorney general; and from 2014 to 2016, he was deputy legal counsel to then-Vice President Biden.
Currently, Mackler serves as Delaware’s deputy attorney general.
According to the Washington Times, in June 2015, as Biden’s legal adviser, McLure did Hunter “a favor. In an email to Hunter, he provided the cell phone numbers of 17 Cabinet members who were attending an event that lasted more than a day.
Among the list: Samantha Power, former U.S. representative to the United Nations; Jack Lew, former Treasury secretary; Loretta E. Lynch, former attorney general; and Tom Perez, former labor secretary and current chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
In the same month, McClellan also sent Hunter an email titled “These are cell phone numbers,” providing the numbers of 25 more top political figures, including former President Bill Clinton, then-Nevada Democratic Senator Harry Reid and then-California Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, now the U.S. Senate president.
Last November, The National Pulse also revealed that McClellan sent an email to Hunter on July 13, 2016, suggesting that Biden “sell” himself to the company’s board for a large sum of money.
The email reads, “I know this has been talked about … if Evan Bayh (a former Democratic senator) could sell himself to serve on the company’s board for $1 million a year, it is believed that ‘JRB’ (an acronym for Biden’s full name, Joseph Biden) could sell himself to the company’s board for $1 million a year. Robinette Biden’s acronym) could certainly do well on a non-oil, non-Goldman Sachs board (Bloomberg, General Motors, cancer hospitals, etc.) consistent with his career.”
Mackler added, “Behe made nearly $1 million last year serving on corporate boards. According to SEC records, Behe earned $939,319 for his positions on corporate boards in 2015. He sits on the boards of Fifth Third Bancorp, Marathon Petroleum, RLJ Housing Trust and Berry Plastics Group. 2015, RLJ Housing Trust gave him $177,573, Marathon Petroleum gave him $300,000 and Fifth Third Bancorp gave him $243,564, and Berry Plastics Group gave him $218,182.”
The email was co-addressed by Ted Kaufman, head of the Biden transition team; campaign chairman Steve Richetti; Eric Schwerin, Hunt’s former business partner; and Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mark Gitenstein.
According to the Biden-Hugenheimer transition government webpage, McLear is currently a member of the transition government team that is jointly responsible for the vetting and evaluation of new hires in the justice related departments.
These departments include the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), the Commission on Civil Rights, the National Council on Disability, the United States Access Board, the AbilityOne Steering Committee, the State Justice Institute, and the Legal Services Corporation.
