An outbreak of 2019 coronavirus disease (Chinese communist virus, COVID-19, Wuhan pneumonia) indigenous to Dalian, Liaoning province, China, broke out in the middle of last month and has not stopped so far. According to the WeChat public number “Dalian Release”, the press office of Dalian government held a press conference on the prevention and control of the epidemic this afternoon to inform the preliminary results of the investigation of the epidemic.
Zhao Lian, deputy director of the Dalian health and Wellness Commission, pointed out that after the announcement of four new cases of asymptomatic local infections in Dalian on the 15th of last month, 78 people have been infected with the local epidemic as of midnight on the 2nd, including 48 confirmed cases and 30 asymptomatic cases.
She said the source of the outbreak in Dalian was initially determined to be five dock workers carrying virus-positive bulk cargo from a Russian cargo ship, which spread to the Jinrun Garden district and the Jinzha commercial building.
Zhao Lian also said that among the cases related to the Golden Block Commercial Building, a case surnamed Jin participated in a family gathering of 11 people when the disease was not present, causing all other 10 people to be infected. After epidemiological investigation, it was found that the case surnamed Jin was the owner of the Golden Tower Commercial Building, and the onset of the disease was on December 15, the earliest person in his family to become infected, so it was decided that the case surnamed Jin was the source of infection for his family, and the source of his infection was the Golden Tower Commercial Building.
She pointed out that as of midnight on the 2nd, the cumulative total of confirmed cases and asymptomatic infected persons associated with the case surnamed Kim was 33, of which 21 were confirmed cases and 12 were asymptomatic infected persons. And five of its associated cases have visited the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University, causing three more people to be infected with the disease.
As of now, three confirmed cases in Dalian are still being investigated for traceability, officials said.
