The Chinese government is now giving the 2019 coronavirus disease (Chinese communist virus, COVID-19, Wuhan pneumonia) vaccine to key populations, but has set an age limit of 18 to 59 years old, saying this is because people of other ages need to wait for “further clinical trials.

The government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has approved the conditional marketing of the new inactivated vaccine of Sinopharm Group, the first domestic COVID-19 vaccine approved for marketing in China, on the last day of last year.
The vaccine has been approved for marketing, but the elderly, who are the most in need of the vaccine, are now unable to receive it, saying that “further clinical trials” are pending, a move that threatens to deepen doubts about China’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The official media CCTV News released the “New Coronavirus Vaccination Notice” on the 3rd, which contains the following 3 points.
First, the current age limit for vaccination is 18 to 59 years old, while other age groups need to wait for further clinical trials.
Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and people with uncontrollable hypertension and diabetic complications are not suitable for vaccination.
The recommended immunization schedule is 2 doses with an interval of at least 14 days.
According to the comprehensive release of the local media, people who are not suitable for vaccination include those who are in the acute stage of diseases such as fever and infection, those suffering from immunodeficiency or immune disorder, and those with serious liver and kidney diseases and malignant tumors.
The vaccination instructions do not explain why people outside of the 18-59 age group need to wait for “further clinical trials” before the vaccine can be administered, which has sparked debate among Chinese netizens today, who say that the real priority for vaccination is the elderly, who have the highest mortality rate.
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, which is currently being administered in the United States, is set for ages 16 to 85.
China is currently administering the COVID-19 vaccine to key populations such as medical, traffic, transportation, quarantine, and overseas travel, with the first 50 million vaccinations expected. The first dose will be administered on January 15 and the second on February 15 of this year.
